Maret is a life long Alaskan who grew up in Fairbanks and relocated to Anchorage as a teenager. These days, you’ll find her painting in her south Anchorage studio, at the end of a dirt road, tucked in the woods. She spends her days getting her hands dirty and playing with color! Her gently cluttered eclectic studio is full of tubes of paint, brushes, and an ever changing collection of feathers, rocks and assorted natural treasures.

Artist Statement:
I didn’t go to Art School. Instead, I studied art online, discovered my first artist role models, attended a bunch of workshops and classes and found an artist community that resonates with my passion.

I’ve tried a bunch of different mediums and subjects and I try to practice every day.

My art begins with a simple idea of what inspires me. I love the gentle, creative, spontaneous elements of watercolor, the messiness of collage and the richness of oil paints.

Painting forces me to slow down and observe the world around me. I delight in finding ways to express how nature speaks to me.

My hope is that the viewer enjoys it too.
