Painting with oil paints is totally different than watercolors. Both mediums have their own unique challenges and rewards. The choice between watercolor and oil painting depends on the desired effect and the preference for working with either transparent, ethereal washes or textured, vibrant layers.
I enjoy using oil paint because I like feeling the thick paint under my brush as I move it on the canvas. Oil paint takes a long time to dry, so I can mix colors for a while and create depth in my art. I can use techniques with oil paint to make my paintings look different.
